How Honda Fuel Cost Calculator Works
The Honda Fuel Cost Calculator estimates fuel use and cost for commuting and road trips. It supports distance in miles or kilometres, fuel economy in MPG (US), MPG (UK), or L/100 km, and an optional side-by-side comparison of two vehicles or scenarios.
Results depend on your inputs and assume constant fuel economy and price. They are estimates, not guarantees, and exclude costs not entered such as maintenance, tolls, or financing.
Calculation and Formula
Unit conversion
All economy values are normalized to L/100 km before calculating fuel use:
MPG (US) → L/100 km: 235.214583 ÷ MPG
MPG (UK) → L/100 km: 282.480936 ÷ MPG
L/100 km → MPG (US): 235.214583 ÷ L/100 km
L/100 km → MPG (UK): 282.480936 ÷ L/100 km
US and UK gallons differ, so MPG (US) and MPG (UK) are not interchangeable.
Fuel use and cost
Distance km = distance × 1.609344 (when entered in miles)
Fuel litres = (distance km × L/100 km) ÷ 100
Cost = fuel litres × price per litre
Time-based estimates
Daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly figures scale the trip cost by trips per week, using roughly 4.33 weeks per month and 52 weeks per year.
Comparison scenario
The optional second scenario uses the same formulas, and the difference shows how much more or less scenario A costs relative to scenario B.
Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is the difference between MPG (US) and MPG (UK)?
A UK gallon is larger than a US gallon, so the same vehicle has a higher MPG (UK) number than MPG (US).
2. Can I compare two cars?
Yes. Enable the comparison option and enter details for a second vehicle or scenario.
3. Are fuel prices converted between currencies?
No. Choose your currency for the symbol only; amounts are not converted.
4. How are monthly costs calculated?
Trip cost × trips per week × 4.33 weeks per month.
5. Does this include maintenance or financing?
No. It covers fuel use and cost only.
6. Is this accurate for real-world driving?
Real-world economy varies with driving style, load, terrain, and conditions. Treat results as estimates.
7. Can I download the results?
Yes. Use the CSV or text download buttons, or print the page.
8. What distance units are supported?
Miles and kilometres.
